Credit Cards Can Double Your Warranty

By: TaoCredit Staff Published: December 06, 2010

Often, buying electronics involves offers to extend the default warranty policies on your item.  Most of the offers are not worth getting unless they are free or close to it.  A good alternative is to make your purchases using a credit card that automatically doubles the standard warranty period.  American Express has Buyers Assurance programs that do this with most of their credit cards.  Visa's Warranty Manger Service and MasterCard's extended-warranty coverage provides similar benefits to the consumer.

To take advantage of these extended warranty programs, it is important for consumers to keep the original receipt.  If the purchased electronic is faulty and needs repair, first contact the credit card issuer.  You would then wait for the issuer to cover the cost of the service before initiating any repairs.  Many times, warranty repairs by the credit card company may even provide a better choice of repair facilities that the manufacturer's own extended warranty programs.
