Foreign Exchange Fees Waived for Chase Continental and United Cards

By: TaoCredit Staff Published: February 21, 2011

For those individuals who are fed up with fees charged by credit card companies when merchants process a transaction outside of the United States, there is a bit of good news.

Chase announced Wednesday that they will no longer charge foreign exchange fees on their Continental Presidential Plus and United Mileage Plus Club Visa cards.  Those with a Chase Continental or United Card that do not bare this name will be subject to the same fees for transactions outside the United States.  Cardholders are encouraged to call their credit card company to clarify this information.

This change can be attributed to the growing discontent by cardholders towards the implementation of these fees. Though there are still a majority of credit card issuers that continue to apply foreign exchange fees, there is strong trend towards its abolishment.  This changing of tides is the result of those individuals who have complained loudly and whom have never stopped pointing out how immoral these fees are.

Citigroup has already dropped the fees on select cards, while Chase has done so on their British Airways, Priority Club, and Hyatt credit cards.  American Express plans to do the same.
